FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A bill intended to keep illegal immigrants from getting welfare benefits in Kentucky is up for a committee vote Thursday.

The measure is on the agenda for the Senate Judiciary Committee that meets at 10 a.m. in the Capitol Annex.

Republican Sen. Mike Wilson of Bowling Green is sponsoring the legislation that would require welfare applicants to present proof of their U.S. citizenship. Without that proof, applicants would be ineligible for the government benefits.

The legislation is Senate Bill 118.
