Murray State Student Pleads Guilty in Explosives Case

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- A Murray State University student has pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree wanton endangerment in a case involving bomb-making materials in his dorm room.

David Matthew Wilson of Florissant, Missouri entered the plea Monday in Calloway Circuit Court. Judge Dennis Foust sentenced the 18-year-old to 12 months in prison, which was diverted, and a conditional discharge for two years.

Wilson had been charged after Murray State Police officers allegedly found a black powder mixed with ammonium nitrate, a pipe, and fuse in Wilson's dorm room during a search January 31.

The Murray Ledger & Times reported Wilson told Foust he had intended to use the explosives for removal of tree trunks and possibly other uses on a farm near his St. Louis home.
