U of L Singers Heading to Cuba

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The University of Louisville Cardinal Singers choral group is headed to Cuba for the U.S./Cuba Summit on Choral Music in Havana.

The student singers will represent the American Choral Directors Association at the event, scheduled for May 26 to 31. It's the only performing group from the U.S. at the event. The students will take part in the opening and closing sessions.

School of Music Professor Kent Hatteberg, who directs the group, says the students will tour Havana and nearby areas in addition to performing at the summit's gala concert with Cuban choirs.

The Cardinal Singers were ranked number one among the top 1000 choral groups in the world last month by Interkultur, an organization that reviews international competitions worldwide.
