FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Three men have pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of a man found along Interstate 64 near Frankfort.

The State-Journal (http://bit.ly/LdFYXO) reported that 31-year-old Joshua Hammond, 44-year-old David Bruce II and 35-year-old James Simons entered the pleas Wednesday in Franklin Circuit Court.

All three are charged with murder, assault, robbery and tampering with physical evidence after Monroe was found dead on the side of Interstate 64 May 6.

Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland said Monroe was beaten and strangled to death on May 5, and his assailants were after money and drugs.

More than a dozen of Monroe's family members, most wearing white T-shirts with "In Memory of Charles Roy Monroe" printed on the back, sat in the courtroom during the arraignments.
