For those of you planning on attending Thunderfest, you may want to pay attention to these traffic changes.
The Bowling Green Police Department have developed a traffic plan to help everyone exit the event as safely and quickly as possible.
The Plan will be activated at approximately 9:45 p.m. and should be complete with all roads reopened by 11:15.
It will effect the following intersections:
Interstate Drive at Corvette Drive- Right turn only from Corvette Drive to I-65. Those exiting from north side of the intersection(Jerry’s) will also take a mandatory right towards downtown.
Louisville Road(North) at New Porter Pike/Plum Springs Loop- Traffic on New Porter Pike exiting from the event area may be allowed to turn right, left or go straight. Officers will need to periodically stop Porter Pike traffic to allow north and southbound traffic on Louisville Road to proceed. Traffic on Louisville Road(north) may be allowed to turn right. Any traffic coming from Plum Springs will turn right only onto Louisville Road(southbound)
Parker Avenue at New Porter Pike- Right turn only from Parker Avenue onto New Porter Pike. No vehicles allowed to turn onto Parker Avenue from Porter Pike.
Corvette Drive at New Porter Pike- Right turn only from Corvette Drive onto New Porter Pike. If traffic is light then vehicles may be allowed to turn left. No traffic should be allowed to turn onto Corvette Drive with the exception of emergency vehicles.
New Porter Pike at Old Porter Pike- Traffic on Old Porter Pike turn right only onto New Porter Pike. Traffic on New Porter Pike should not be allowed to turn left onto Old Porter Pike unless absolutely necessary. Traffic will be allowed to turn any direction at New Porter Pike/Louisville Road so this should help with total congestion thus eliminating a “bleed-off” route onto Old Porter Pike. Keep in mind that any traffic allowed onto Old Porter will cause potential problems at Louisville Road.
Interstate Drive at Louisville Road(southbound ramp)- Assist southbound vehicles exiting onto Louisville Road. Communication with units at Louisville Road and New Porter Pike will be necessary.
Louisville Road at Interstate Drive(northbound)- No traffic will be allowed to turn onto Interstate Drive from Louisville Road(north). Additionally, traffic on Louisville Road(south) will not be allowed to turn left onto Interstate Drive.
Louisville Road a Old Louisville Road - Monitor and direct traffic only as necessary.
NOTE: There will be NO directing of traffic from parking areas onto roadways provided by the police department.
