Posted: 12:38 PM Aug 20, 2012

WKU Continuing Education is offering two new motorcycle rider safety courses: one Labor Day weekend and a course for women motorcycle riders.

The Labor Day weekend course will take place Friday, Aug. 31; Saturday, Sept. 1; and Monday, Sept. 3.

A course geared toward women motorcycle riders will be offered Sept. 21-Sept. 23.

Both are a Basic Rider Course for motorcycle riders ages 16 or over, including beginners and experienced riders.

Courses include classroom and practical instruction taught by experienced rider coaches who are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

Students learn fundamental riding skills, motorcycle safety, emergency braking and the different types of motorcycles, their controls and how they operate.

Students also learn how to create their own strategy for riding in traffic and dealing with critical situations.

Kentucky residents who successfully complete the course receive a license waiver for the skill test to obtain their motorcycle license.

Motorcycles and helmets are provided. The fee for each course is $100 for Kentucky residents and $150 for non-Kentucky residents.
