Carlie Lee Sims Sr., 81, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 9:48 p.m. at his residence.

Mr. Sims was born June 21, 1930, in Plano. He was a son of the late Jesse C. Sims and Eloda Yadon Sims. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sims; brothers, Guy, Roy, Odis and Herman Sims; and a sister, Jessie Mae Davis.

Mr. Sims was a member of Plano Baptist Church, a graduate of Plano School, and a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S. Navy. He was a 24-year employee with General Electric in Louisville and owner and operator of Plano Store for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and a 56-year Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Donna J. Rickman Sims of Bowling Green; a son, Carlie L. (Butch) Sims Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Louisville; a grandson, Carlie L. Sims III and his wife, Amber, of Mount Washington; a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Sims of Louisville; a great-grandson, Landon Lee Sims of Mount Washington; two stepsons, R. Stan Vernon of Jackson, Miss., and R. Scott Vernon of Clinton, Miss.; a stepdaughter, Stefani L. Duran of Denham Springs, La.; three brothers, Owen Sims of Bowling Green, Jimmy Sims of Louisville and Robert Sims of Scottsville; three sisters, Ruth Jost of Plano, Ethel Hedges of Bowling Green and Josie Barrick of Smiths Grove; and 31 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Plano Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Plano Baptist Church.
