Wes Garrison, 68, passed away in his Utica home with his two children by his side April 24, 2012.
Garrison was born Sept. 12, 1943, in Newbern, Tenn., to John Wesley Garrison and Mary Clyde DeShazo Garrison.
He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Garrison, her husband, Dr. Terry Likes, and their daughter, Katie, of Bowling Green; and a son, Jimmie Garrison, and his daughters, Megan and Maddie, of Owensboro; a brother, John Garrison, and three sisters, Sandy Garrison and Pat Munaco, all of Cuba, Mo., and Gail McWilliams of Fayetteville, Ark.; 14 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Garrison was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Nancy Garrison of Owensboro (formerly Finley, Tenn.); two brothers, Bobby Joe and Larry Glenn Garrison of St. Louis (formerly Mason Hall, Tenn.); and a sister, Rose Simpson of Finley.
Wes Garrison was a dynamic and charismatic person, respected and loved by many and liked by everyone who met him and his infectious smile. He never met a stranger, loved a good joke and possessed a quick wit. He was a supportive father, loving grandfather, good brother and great friend. A natural leader and businessman, Garrison knew how to motivate people and how to bring out their best qualities. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone and mentored many people throughout his life. He loved life in the outdoors boating, fishing, gardening, hunting and golfing. Garrison loved women and the water, was on the water every chance he could get and was very well-known around the dam boils on Kentucky and Barkley lakes. Garrison was known in Utica for having an open garage door policy. If the garage door was open, you could stop in for a visit and wisdom. His towering absence leaves a gaping hole in the lives of his family and friends.
Garrison was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church beginning in 2002. Prior to that, he was a member and deacon of Buck Creek Baptist Church.
No formal service is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Garrison’s name to Hospice of Western Kentucky. Messages to the family may be left at www.davisfuneralhome.
