Appleton, WI - Starting pitcher Roberto Gomez did not allow an earned run in his five innings on Monday afternoon, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (14-11) lost to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (14-11) 7-2 in the series finale. Jeff Malm had the only run batted in for the Hot Rods, who lost a series for the first time in franchise history to the Timber Rattlers. The loss for Bowling Green is their seventh in the last ten games.
The lone offensive outburst for Bowling Green occurred in the top of the fifth inning, trailing 1-0. Todd Glaesmann began the frame with a triple off the wall in right field. The next batter was Malm, who drove home Glaesmann with a single through the hole at second base. The Hot Rods added the go-ahead run later in the frame as Malm scampered home after a wild throw at third base by Rattler pitcher Andy Moye.
Hot Rods starting pitcher Roberto Gomez was very effective in his five frames. All he allowed was an unearned run, striking out two and walking one on four hits. It was the Bowling Green bullpen that Wisconsin took advantage of, erupting for a late rally for the second straight game. The Timber Rattlers put a firm stamp on the game and the series with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With the Wisconsin series and twelve straight contests against the Western Division behind them, the Hot Rods head to South Bend, Indiana, to begin a three-game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks after an off day on Tuesday. Game one of the series begins on Wednesday night at Coveleski Stadium at 7:05 PM EDT. The Hot Rods will send RHP Jake Floethe (2-1, 4.38) to the mound against South Bend's RHP Archie Bradley (3-1, 2.08).
