BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After playing three of the four infield spots throughout the season and being among the team leaders in numerous offensive categories, WKU infielder Scott Wilcox was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team as a utility player, the league announced on Tuesday.
Wilcox has started all 55 games in 2012, with 34 starts at third base,10 starts at shortstop and nine starts at second base. The sophomore utility player sports a .977 fielding percentage and leads WKU with 313 putouts.
On the offensive side, Wilcox has been a mainstay near the top of the Hilltopper order, hitting .288 on the year with four home runs, 11 doubles and 27 RBIs. His 59 hits during the regular season rank second on the team behind Casey Dykes' 63 hits. Wilcox is also second on the team with a .400 slugging percentage and leads the team with 45 walks.
The Burlington, Ontario native blasted two home runs in a game against South Alabama on May 13 and has had 15 multi-hit games this season. Wilcox made 27 starts as a true freshman in 2011 and put together an 11-game hitting streak during his rookie campaign.
Wilcox and the Hilltoppers will open the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday against top-seeded Florida Atlantic at 7:00 from Bowling Green Ballpark in downtown Bowling Green, Ky.
