WKU Hosts Butler on Tuesday in Final Sun Belt Tuneup

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — With Sun Belt Conference play set to begin this weekend, the Western Kentucky University baseball team will look to start another winning streak Tuesday when it hosts Butler at 3 p.m. at Nick Denes Field.
WKU (6-9) is coming off a series victory over Western Illinois over the weekend, earning a 7-2 victory Friday and a come-from-behind 9-4 win on Saturday. Hilltopper left fielder Adam Lavelle led the offense, going 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate with two runs and a team-best four RBIs.
The Hilltoppers have now won back-to-back non-conference series and have won three of their last five games. Sophomore infielder Scott Wilcox leads the team with a .346 batting average, 18 hits, 16 walks and a .500 on-base percentage. As a team, WKU is hitting .269 with 18 doubles and five home runs.
Tuesday is the final game of a eight-game homestand for the Hilltoppers to begin the month of March. WKU will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., this weekend to open league play at Middle Tennessee. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m Sunday at Reese Smith Field.
