Comstock Park, MI - After the Bowling Green Hot Rods (2-3) used a late rally to tie the score, the West Michigan Whitecaps (3-2) walked-off to a 4-3 victory on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Joel Caminero's broken bat, two-run single tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the ninth, but Colin Kaline walked his team off with a single to left field in the bottom of the ninth. The loss marks the third straight for the Hot Rods after winning the season's first two contests.
Having not scored a run since the seventh inning of Saturday night's loss in Bowling Green, the Hot Rods took little time to strike first on Tuesday evening. On the game's second pitch, Drew Vettleson grounded out to drive home Ryan Brett, who was at third after tripling on the first pitch of the game.
The Hot Rods offense was quiet until the top of the ninth inning, seeing the Whitecaps take a 3-1 advantage. After a Cameron Seitzer walk and a Jeff Malm double, Caminero came to the plate in search of his first hit of the season. He delivered a broken bat single to center field that scored both runners and tied the score at three apiece.
The Whitecaps didn't wait long to untie the score. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Colin Kaline lined a single down the line in left field to give West Michigan a 4-3 Tuesday night win and their second win in as many nights against the Hot Rods.
The Hot Rods continue the season's first road swing when they take on the West Michigan Whitecaps (Future Tigers) in the finale of the three-game set on Wednesday at 12:00 PM EDT. Starting for the Hot Rods will be RHP Jake Floethe (1-0, 0.00). West Michigan will counter with RHP Josue Carreno (0-1, 8.10).
