BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University baseball team will continue a nine-game homestand this week when it hosts Lipscomb on Tuesday and Austin Peay on Wednesday. First pitch for the pair of non-conference games is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Hilltoppers (17-23) are coming off a series victory against Troy to open the second half of Sun Belt Conference play. After dropping the series opener 13-3, WKU picked up wins of 9-4 and 6-5 in the final two games of the series to win its first series against the Trojans in Bowling Green since 2007.
Left-hander Tim Bado and catcher Devin Kelly combined to left the Hilltoppers to a 9-4 win Saturday to even the series. Bado allowed four runs on 10 hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 7-1/3 innings. Kelly went 3-for-4 with two runs, a career-high five RBIs and his second home run of the season.
In Sunday's finale, Kelly's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Hilltoppers to a 6-5 win. In the three-game series, he went 7-for-13 (.538) with a double, a home run and seven RBIs.
Tuesday night is "$2 Tuesday" at Nick Denes Field where all tickets, food and beverage items are only $2. Also, the first 500 WKU students into the game will receive a free hamburger. Students must present WKU Student ID.
WKU will welcome Louisiana-Monroe to Bowling Green this weekend for a three-game series at Nick Denes Field. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Noon Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Saturday's game is scheduled for broadcast on the Sun Belt Conference Network.
