Floethe Flawless, Hot Rods Blank Captains

Bowling Green, KY – Jake Floethe allowed just one hit in six innings on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark, leading the Bowling Green Hot Rods (17-14) to a 4-0 win over the Lake County Captains (12-18). Taylor Motter hit a solo home run, and Drew Vettleson drove in two with a double to spark the Hot Rods offense late in the victory, the team’s tenth in 15 home games to begin 2012.

For the third time in three games in this series, the Hot Rods scored the game’s first tally. This time, the Hot Rods were the beneficiaries of two errors in the bottom of the first that led to a run to score. With the bases loaded and just one away, Todd Glaesmann grounded a ball back to the mound, and Captain pitcher Felix Sterling booted the ball away to allow Ryan Brett to score, giving the Hot Rods the 1-0 advantage.

Jake Floethe took over from there, limiting the Captains to just one hit in his six frames. Tying a career-high with three walks, the righty was solid with runners in scoring position, limiting Lake County to an 0-5 mark in that category. Floethe’s effort was good enough to earn him his fourth win of the season, which ties him with his teammate Ryan Carpenter and five other Midwest League pitchers for the league lead.
Taking a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Hot Rods added three insurance runs. Taylor Motter began the inning with a solo home run to left field for his second longball of the year and his first at Bowling Green Ballpark. Later in the frame, Drew Vettleson put the game away with his two-run double down the line in right field. Andrew Bellatti hurled the game’s final three innings to grab his first professional save.
