Bowling Green, KY – On behalf of the Tampa Bay Rays, Bowling Green Hot Rods LHP Felipe Rivero has been named the “Rays Minor League Pitcher of the Month” for April 2012. In the opening month to his Class A and Hot Rods debut, the 20-year-old lefty from Venezuela allowed just two earned runs in 26.2 innings.

Rivero did not allow an earned run until his fifth start of the season on April 27 in Beloit, opening the season with a 21.2-inning streak where an earned run did not cross home plate. In five total outings in April, Rivero was 2-1 with a 0.67 ERA, striking out 26 batters in 26.2 innings and only walking seven. Before the 2012 season, Baseball America ranked Rivero as the 28th-best prospect in the Rays Minor League system.

The solid pitching of Rivero was just one of the many components that led the Hot Rods to their best April in franchise history, winning 14 games. Prior to the 2012 season, the most wins in the season’s opening month by a Hot Rods team was 12 in 2011.
