Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (21-18) used four two-out RBI's on Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark to beat the South Bend Silver Hawks (21-18) 5-4. Drew Vettleson and Josh Sale both hit solo home runs in the win, Bowling Green's fourth in the last five games. Using three one-run victories, the Hot Rods also win the four-game series against South Bend to move into a second place tie with the Silver Hawks in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.

After the Silver Hawks scored the game's first two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run by Gerson Montilla, the Hot Rods offense hit its stride. In the bottom of the second, Bowling Green tied the score as they manufactured two runs with two outs. Josh Sale started the rally with a solo home run to right-centerfield. The longball was Sale's third in just nine games as a Hot Rod. Later in the inning, Jake Hager connected for an RBI-double to tie the score at two apiece.

The Hot Rods scored the game's next three runs as well. Drew Vettleson added a solo home run in the bottom of the third to give the Hot Rods their first lead at 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Hager provided his team with another two-out, RBI-double. The 19-year-old shortstop drove in his tenth run of the season to give the Hot Rods the 4-2 advantage.

Todd Glaesmann provided Bowling Green with another two-out RBI when he singled home a run in the bottom of the seventh for his team-leading nineteenth RBI. The insurance run that put the Hot Rods ahead by three runs turned out to be the decisive play in the ball game because of a South Bend rally in the eighth.

The Silver Hawks scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to bring the Hot Rods advantage to within one run. However, Austin Hubbard retired the final five outs of the ball game to preserve the win for the Hot Rods and pick-up his fifth save. Ryan Carpenter, who settled down after a two-run first inning, lasted five innings to grab his fifth win of the season.

With the four-game set with South Bend in the rear-view mirror, the Hot Rods will welcome the Dayton Dragons to town on Wednesday night for the first of a three-game series at 6:35 PM. Getting the pearl for Bowling Green in game one against the Reds Class A Affiliate is RHP Roberto Gomez (2-1, 4.04). The righty will oppose Dayton's RHP Stalin Gerson (1-3, 4.66).
