BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University baseball team will play its final three games of the regular season beginning Thursday in a series against Middle Tennessee. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday at Nick Denes Field.
WKU (22-30, 11-16 Sun Belt Conference) is currently tied for ninth in the league standings with Louisiana-Lafayette, a game behind Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe and Troy, who are tied for sixth. Middle Tennessee (28-25, 13-14) is in fifth place.
The Hilltoppers are coming off an 11-7 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night. Left fielder David Simmons went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and WKU used an eight-run bottom of the second to pull in front for good after the Colonels took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the inning.
When the two teams met in March, WKU hit .221 as a team with 21 hits, three doubles and a home run while the pitching staff posted a 5.40 ERA with 29 strikeouts and only nine walks. The Blue Raiders won the final two games of the series after the Hilltoppers earned a 9-2 victory in opener.
Numerous promotions are slated to take place at the ballpark this weekend.
Saturday is "Military Appreciation Day" where all military personnel will receive a complimentary ticket to the game when they present a valid military ID at the gate. In addition, WKU's five seniors will be honored prior to first pitch.
