PINEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The Bell County clerk's office remains closed in southeastern Kentucky after the clerk and three of her deputies were arrested last week in connection with people not receiving tax refunds they were owed.

The closure is starting to have an effect on county business.

Judge-Executive Albey Brock had to cancel a Fiscal Court meeting on Tuesday, which means the county can't pay its bills.

Officials say the office's closure also means residents can't get services that the office provides, such as getting tags for vehicles, checking property deeds or getting a marriage license.

Brock says he is checking with officials in Frankfort to see how to proceed with county business without a clerk.
