LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- A boater says he was never in danger, but he needed help after his engine broke down in the Kentucky River.

Craig Dajurdin said he was able get a cellphone signal and call 911 after the engine quit near the Clark-Madison County line on Monday night.

A search and rescue crew found him about three hours later and towed his boat to shore.

Dajurdin said he was asleep on the boat with his dog when rescuers arrived.

He said he is undergoing treatment for leukemia and didn't want to miss a Tuesday morning doctor appointment.
