IRVINE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say the body of a 90-year-old woman has been found in a cistern on her property in eastern Kentucky.
WKYT-TV in Lexington reported the woman's daughter found her dead Monday evening at the victim's Estill County home, about 10 miles south of Irvine. Family members came to check on the woman because they had not heard from her since Sunday morning.
Coroner Tony Murphy identified the woman to the Lexington Herald-Leader at Mary Osborne.
State Police said the opening of the 8-foot-deep cistern is 20 inches by 20 inches. Authorities said Osborne drowned in about 18 inches of water.
The KSP said it appears she fell into the cistern accidentally.
