Home Alone Mom Waives Right to Preliminary Hearing

It was a very fast proceeding today with not a lot of emotion shown from Farah or the court room.

The home alone mom, Jackie Farah, is back in jail today after she and her attorney chose not to have a preliminary hearing.

However, the Commonwealth is still putting this case at the top of their list.

"Anytime a child is involved in a case and you see mal-treatment of a child, that without question raises the seriousness of the case. All cases involving kids are a priority without question," said Warren County Commonwealth Attorney Chris Cohron.

Farah is charged with 19 felonies that include criminal abuse and wanton endangerment.

The charges stem from the 19 children and ten animals she allegedly left in a house with no air conditioning, no food, and no water for a week, something which she says isn't correct.

"Her statements to us were basically that she notified her neighbor to watch after the children, and that she had left some food for them, and the air conditioner worked when she left town," said Det. Tim Robinson, Warren County Sheriff Department.

She isn't the only one involved in this.

The Warren County Sheriff Department is looking for who they say is her husband, Irving Smith.

"There is a warrant for Mr. Smith. He's entered into NCIC. We're seeking him. We think he's around the Chicago area. We're waiting him to return to Bowling Green, at this time he has not," said Robinson.

Officials say it is likely there could be more charges, that might include animal abuse.

"I think that's a possibility. I think once the grand jury hears the totality of the circumstances, and views all the evidence in the case, there are many additional charges that may be forthcoming," said Cohron.

Now, the case is given to the grand jury to make those decisions.

Farah's bond remains at $100,000 cash.

Her attorney, public defender, Deidre Bowen, said she has no comment after WBKO's request to interview her.
