FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's harsh winter has state lawmakers scrambling to give relief to school districts faced with making up lost days due to snow and ice.

The Kentucky House passed a bill Friday allowing districts to waive up to 10 missed instructional days this academic year.

Senators are working on their own version that could get a vote next week.

Leaders in both chambers want to get a final bill to Gov. Steve Beshear as soon as possible to let districts adjust their schedules.

Senate President Robert Stivers says some districts have missed more than 30 days.

Stivers sounds skeptical about waiving a set number of days statewide.

He says the Senate is trying to craft a bill geared toward the majority of districts, while focusing on educational time for students.
