HAZARD, Ky. (AP) -- An eastern Kentucky man has pleaded not guilty to killing a woman whose burned body was found along a roadside a week after she was reported missing.

Gary W. Ward of Meally in Johnson County entered the plea Thursday in Knott County Circuit Court. He is accused of murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in the September death of Christina Hale Barnett.

Defense attorneys also argued for a reduction in Ward's bond, which is set at $500,000, but the judge didn't immediately rule on the matter.
