FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell's campaign has taken to the postal service to attack 2014 GOP primary challenger Matt Bevin, calling him a "snake oil" salesman in a new mailer.
Bevin, a Louisville businessman, is in a nasty primary race with McConnell. They have been swapping unflattering TV ads for weeks. Bevin is slamming McConnell for "failed leadership" over nearly three decades in the Senate. McConnell has labeled his challenger "bailout Bevin" in an ad that references a $200,000 government bailout for a Connecticut company his family owns.
The winner of the McConnell-Bevin matchup will likely face Democratic front-runner Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky's 34-year-old secretary of state, in the 2014 general election.
