COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Police say four children saw their father kill their stepfather and them himself in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen restaurant in northern Kentucky.

Police told The Kentucky Enquirer that the stepfather, 62-year-old Mark Kroening, had brought the children to the restaurant on Sunday for a visit with their father, 41-year-old Zuriel Turk.

Officers say they aren't sure what happened immediately after the parties arrived, but at some point Turk pulled and gun and began shooting. The children, who range in age from 10 to 16, ran across the street to a liquor store seeking help. None of them were injured.

Police say they are still investigating a motive.

The children were returned to their mother.
