FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's public television station KET will broadcast live from the tiny community of Fancy Farm when politicians gather early next month for a heated afternoon of stump speeches.

Headliners for the event are Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and his top Democratic challenger, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes. Though the election isn't until next year, the campaign is in full swing.

Both candidates confirmed earlier this week that they will attend the Aug. 3 event.

One of the Fancy Farm organizers, Mark Wilson, said C-SPAN, which carried the speeches last year, may also be back this year.

The political speeches are part of a church picnic that doubles as a fundraiser for St. Jerome Parish. The annual event typically draws some 10,000 people and generates about $250,000.
