LONDON, Ky. (AP) -- Slick roads have caused a traffic death in western Kentucky.

79-year-old Paul A. Davis of Salem in Livingston County died Thursday when his car collided with another vehicle.

The crash was one of dozens that police responded to across the state as a blast of wintry weather hit, causing temperatures to plummet and wet roads to become icy.

At least one other traffic fatality was reported. Knox County Sheriff's Deputy Claude Hudson said Ruby Miles was hit and killed Thursday by a vehicle unable to stop on icy Kentucky 11 south of Barbourville as she walked up the road after her vehicle slid into a guardrail.

Cold temperatures and snow remained in some areas on Friday and some school districts called off classes.
