Suspicious Device Found on Ohio River Barge Blown Up

UTICA, Ind. (AP) -- Southern Indiana authorities have detonated a "suspicious device" found on an Ohio river barge that tuned out to harmless.

Utica Town Marshal Charles Reven says members of an Indiana State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team blew it up Monday evening and found it wasn't a pipe bomb as initially suspected.

He says a Mount Vernon Barge Services employee cleaning up the barge had brought the item ashore, not knowing what it was.

Utica is about 10 miles north of Louisville.
