LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Hideous lamps that have entertained Kentucky State Fair visitors since 1996 won't be around this year. The Ugly Lamp Contest lost its home when Lynn's Paradise Cafe in Louisville closed down.

Dozens of weirdly decorated lamps, with entries from as far away as Europe, were created for the contest each year.

State fair spokeswoman Amanda Storment says the contest belongs to Lynn's Paradise Cafe owner Lynn Winter, who produced it, and that there isn't enough time to start over and produce a contest next month.

Storment said while the contest won't be a part of this year's festivities, the fair hopes it will be back in the future.

Restaurant chief operating officer Patty Schnatter says the contest will go with the sale of the restaurant.
