BOWING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Officials at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green say they've got a bright idea about saving money.

The school's manager of plant operations, Dale Dyer, says all the light bulbs on campus that may last three years will be replaced with bulbs that last 16 years.

Dyer says changing bulbs may not seem like much, but the savings to be had a big.

Dyer says the new bulbs are part of an energy savings and efficiency strategy that has brought millions of dollars in savings since being implemented in 2007-08.

The campus kilowatt hours per square foot have dropped 21 percent since that school year. The new light bulbs will continue the reduction of campus kilowatt hours per square foot.
