LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Country singer LeAnn Rimes will help start a new tradition at this year's Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs says Rimes will be the first national recording artist to sing the "Star Spangled Banner" at the historic racetrack as part of the Derby Day ceremonies.
Churchill Downs Inc. senior vice president Kevin Flanery says that it will "begin a 21st century Derby tradition."
The Derby has been held at Churchill Downs continuously since 1875. The 135th Run for the Roses is May 2.
The track says the Fort Knox Army Band will continue its tradition of performing an instrumental version of the national anthem.
