Buddhist Monk Protest Turns Deadly

After two days of peaceful protests, the situation in Myanmar turns deadly.

Security forces in Myanmar opened fire on demonstrators and witnesses say police beat and dragged away dozens of Buddhist monks.

The government said at least one person was killed, while outside media reports up to eight deaths.

The UN Security Council planned to hold closed consultations on Myanmar on Sept. 26 and the secretary-general dispatched a special envoy to the region.
