NEW YORK (AP) -- It appears that former JetBlue Airways flight attendant Steven Slater will not get a second chance to fly the friendly skies. On Saturday, JetBlue spokeswoman Jenny Dervin confirmed that Slater is no longer an employee of the airline, but declined to give further comments.
Slater’s dismissal follows a suspension stemming from an incident aboard a JetBlue flight that gained national attention. Slater used the plane’s loudspeaker to deliver a profanity-laced speech before grabbing beer from the beverage cart and exiting the plane via the emergency chute. The incident was supposedly sparked by a confrontation with a passenger aboard the flight.
After exiting the plane Slater was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and trespassing. Despite these charges, Slater was launched into hero-status for the working class and the public came together in support of his actions. However, this does not appear to be enough to save Slater’s job. His dismissal was first reported by the NBC New York website.
