The captain on board the U.P.S. cargo plane that crashed in Dubai last week has been identified as a man from Kentucky.

The Atlanta based company has identified the crew members killed as Captain Doug Lampe, 48, of Louisville and First Officer Matthew Bell, 38, of Florida.

Sunday investigators said pilots on board faced radio problems and smoke in the cockpit as they struggled to maintain altitude before crashing into the desert outside Dubai last week.

What exactly caused the crash remains under investigation.

A U.S. National Transportation Safety Board team will be helping with the probe.
