Local residents in Bowling Green had the opportunity on Oct. 6 to see how helpful solar energy can be.

BG-Green Partnership for a Sustainable Community and the WKU Alive Center hosted the solar tour.

The local solar tour showed people how they could use solar energy to trim energy bills, increase energy independence and take steps to address global warming.

"To safeguard our environment and planet for future generations, for my children, for your children and the future," chairperson Nancy Givens explained.

Bowling Green joined 46 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico in showcasing solar options during the National Solar Tour.
