A construction company has capped off a geothermal well after smells of gas went throughout a local neighborhood.

According to the Warren County School District, the construction company was working on building the district's new school on El Rod Road, but forgot to close one of the wells.

They add, the Woodburn Fire Department received calls from the neighborhood residents reporting smells of gas.

The construction company was able to close the well.

"We've been insured by the fire department its not a hazardous level of gas in the air. By the time it hits the air its spread out enough that its not dangerous at all. So we're really grateful for that and the construction company this morning and they did cap that well," said Joanie Hendricks.

Hendricks adds the new elementary school being built does not have a name at this time.
