Western Kentucky University President Gary Ransdell is recovering from emergency surgery to remove his appendix.

Western officials say Ransdell's appendix had ruptured before he went to surgery Monday at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.

Family members indicate that Ransdell is doing well, but is expected to remain in the hospital for the next four or five days. Well wishers are asked not to visit the hospital at this time.

University officials say Ransdell was admitted to the hospital Monday, after experiencing abdominal pain.
