Hundreds of area swimmers, displaced by the renovations of Diddle Arena, are closer to having a home they can call their own.

Workers spent most of Monday installing an air pressured dome over the T.C. Cherry Elementary pool. The installation of the $167,000 dome alleviates a problem for several area swim teams.

When the renovations to Western's Diddle Arena began, a pool that catered to WKU's swim program and the community was closed for good. A petition circulated by a Bowling Green doctor and signed by 750 people caught the attention of Warren County's Fiscal Court who agreed to fit the bill. Warren County's Board of Education also agreed to pick up the debt and operating expenses.

The year-round aquatic facility will be used to accommodate area swim teams, swim programs and swimming lessons. The YMCA is planning on conducting swimming lessons and water aerobic classes. In addition, Warren County Parks and Rec. hopes to fill the remaining time slots with new programs like water football and polo leagues.

The Warren County Aquatic Center plans to officially open it's doors on Monday, Sept. 30.
