Candidate for sheriff Allen Houchin is claiming his opponent, incumbent Peanuts Gaines, is guilty of misusing taxpayer money.

Houchin said, among other things, that Gaines allowed a former employee to continue to use a county cell phone and gas charge card long after she was no longer employed.

In addition, he alleges Gaines himself neglected to correctly document gasoline charges. He claims that the sheriff also allowed two other people to use gasoline cards to fuel own personal vehicles.

Gaines has not yet responded to the accusations.
