A Drakesboro woman is dead after being run over twice in Muhlenberg County.

The accident happened at 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 3 in Belton.

Kentucky State Police say 55-year-old Ruby Wells was removing an animal from the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Scott Lear.

Police say Lear was unable to avoid Wells when he topped a hill crest in the road.

After the impact, Wells remained in the road and was struck again by a vehicle driven by Randall Gates.

Police say Gates swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid striking Lear's vehicle and hit Wells.

Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
