ARH Hospital Lays Off 17, Blames Nurse Strike

Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Virginia says the nurses' strike has forced it to close one floor and lay off 17 nurses, clerical workers and support staff.

Beckley ARH is one of the nine Appalachian Regional Hospitals across Kentucky and West Virginia.

About 650 nurses walked out on Oct. 1 and 500 remain on strike.

The Beckley ARH CEO announced the layoffs Dec. 13.

He says the layoffs are necessary to keep the hospital operational.
