Road Crews In South-Central Kentucky Prepare For Threat Of Winter Weather

South-Central Kentucky faces a threat of wintry precipitation.

Throughout the weekend, we could see a mix of rain, sleet and snow.

And the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is preparing to clear a path through the snow and ice.

Road crews were out on Dec. 14 applying a pre-treatment of salt-water known as "salt-brine."

The salt brine is applied before the storm to prevent the snow from sticking to the pavement.

"We're trying to do everything we can, like applying salt brine," said Paul Keith, a KYTC superintendent.

Keith went on to say it takes the crews about 16 hours to cover their routes.

Actual salt won't be put on the roads until the snow starts.
