Area resident displaced by the closure of Sumitomo say they're not receiving the financial help they need or deserve.

Since the company headed South to Mexico through NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), the federal government is required to provide financial assistance to former employees wanting to further their education.

Initially, BRADD (Barren River Area Development District) promised eligible recipients $5,000 a year in federal funding. Five weeks into the semester students received word the total is going to be slashed to $3,500, leaving enrolled students wondering if they would be left picking up the difference. Nearly 100 students attending Draughons Junior College were told if they didn't agree with the changes, they would receive nothing.

BRADD maintains it's doing everything possible to secure additional funding to help those who are eligible.
