Russellville will now be a wet city after a close vote at a special meeting Monday night.
City Commissioners voted four to three to make the city wet and allow the sale of liquor by the drink in restaurants.
In 1983 a vote passed for the sell of beer and wine in local restaurants, the old ordinance says restaurants may sell beer or wine in restaurants that seat 50 people. Now the new ordinance will allow any alcohol to be sold in restaurants that seat 100 people and have food sales of 50 percent.
Many residents agree with the decision made by the City Council, but others say it is a step in the wrong direction.
The ordinance will take affect in about two months and no restaurants in the city have yet to come forward to make a commitment to sell liquor by the drink.
