A much anticipated coal mine reopening in western Kentucky, promising hundreds of high paying jobs, will begin accepting applications on Jan. 07.

St. Louis-based Armstrong Coal said over the summer that it would reopen the Big Run Mine in Centertown, in Ohio County.

The company said eventually there would be about 900 jobs with starting pay of $19-an-hour.

Officials say the Big Run Mine is expected to open on time in April.
