January 13, 1996 is the day the first Amber Alert was issued in Dallas, Texas. Kentucky initiated the Amber Alert system in 2003. In the first year Kentucky had an Amber Alert, all nine children reported missing were found unharmed.
KSP Trooper, Todd Holder, attributes the success of the Amber Alert system to the vast number of people who help police.
Holder says, "Not only do we have hundreds of eyes that are looking for them that are wearing badges, but we have tens of thousands of citizens that see those signs on the side of the interstate and they give a description of the vehicle or license plate number, so they're helping us look."
