Alcohol-Free Policy

The Campus Safety Task Force, formed after the death of Western student Katie Autry, is a step closer to completing the alcohol-free policy for Greek houses.

Gene Tice, the Vice President of Student Affairs says the task force wanted to be pro-active after several incidents across the nation where students became victims of alcohol-related deaths.

According to the current draft for the first offense Alcohol 101 must be completed by 90% of the chapter, the chapter will be on probation for 90 days, and each member will have to perform two hours of community service.

For the second offense, Prime for Life must be completed by 90% of chapter, it will be in probation for 180 days, and each member will have to complete 10 hours of community service.

After the third offense, the organization's status will be reviewed by a committee consisting of two faculty, two staff, a fraternity, and a sorority member.

The committee will then file a report with the Office of Student Life
with-in 20 days and the organization then may be placed on one or two
year suspension.

The final draft of the policy will be completed in the next few weeks.
