Kentucky Infant Killed by Family Dog

A Kentucky infant was killed while taking a nap when he was attacked by the family's dog.

Lexington police say 6-week-old Justin Mozer was sleeping in a bedroom on Jan. 18, when a Jack Russell Terrier attacked him.

"We arrived to find an infant suffering from injuries that we believe came from a dog attack," said Lt. John Gensheimer, of the Lexington Police Dept.

"The child was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital and it has now become a death investigation."

Police say the boy' s mother was in another room at the time.

The infant was taken to the UK Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed the boy died of suffocation and blood loss.

The family also owns a Pit Bull.

It asked animal control to take away both dogs.

Neighbors say they're shocked by what happened.

No charges have been filed.

If it was the UK would there be a clamour about adding JRT's to the Section 1 list by the media and politicians. According to some only large and aggressive dogs are capable of something like this.

I think that the parents should have some sort of punishment for what happened. The child had to rely on the parents for protection. I'm sure that any good parent would know not to have two dogs around an infant. The dogs should have been put outside.

i agree with em, the below poster. even if the child was sleeping it shoulda been monitored if not, close the door and use baby monitors! and whats the point of mentioning they own a pit?! it sounds like an other article to try to put the bad rep on another good dog/dogs when its the parents neglect. this stuff seriously upsets me and the parents should be held responsible and the dog that does not partake should NOT be euthinized even tho it didnt mention it, people like to make absurb assumptions and later on that decision almost always comes up. bad parenting!!! Thats all this is! watch your children! even when they are napping when you have pets in the house, i have two cats, two pit bulls and my child is not left alone. even if i had a pug my child wouldnt be left alone with the family pet. its common sense.

I hardly think a ix week old bay was likely to be pulling on the dog's fur. It is quite possible that the baby cried and that incited the dog, particularly a terrier. Just like a squeaky toy. A tragic event for all concerned.

sorry but the mother is not getting my sympathy, ffs how can people be so stupid, what sort of parent leaves a child unattended with an animal. children at 6weeks should be supervised at all times- its a thing called parenting. and to all the people who say it was unprovoked, i hardly see how you can say that considering apart from the dog there were no witnesses.the baby could have screamed/ pulled on the dogs fur etc, the dog could've been aserting its dominance, dogs are living creatures with their own mind, and the only defence they have is teeth, yes training and socialization can reduce the likley hood of attacks by a great deal, but it will not prevent them. and why is the family abandoning the other dog, did it kill the child?-no
