April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in South Central Kentucky and across the nation. It's a time to focus on ways to not only protect children from abusive environments, but also to prevent abuse from ever occurring.
City leaders, health officials and child advocates say YOU can help protect the children in our neighborhoods, our communities and our states.
Citizens are encouraged to arm themselves with the facts, learn the warning signs, and watch out for the most innocent Kentuckians.
- 3 out of 10 children are abused in one form or another
- Abused children often grow up and inflict the violence they were forced to endure on society in the form of violent crimes
-4,000 children die each year from child abuse
-child abuse CAN BE stopped
If you suspect that a child may be a victim of abuse, you are encouraged to contact your local law enforcement agency or call the child abuse hotline at 1-800-572-6200.
