"I think it should be a personal choice. If a parent thinks that their daughter should get it, I think they should have the right to do it," said Dr. Keith Hewitt, a local OBGYN.

Not only is Dr. Hewitt and OBGYN, he is also the father of two teenage girls who have already had their Gardasil shots, a common form of the Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine.

"Mainly my dad wanted me to, just in case," said 16-year-old Tara Hewitt.

Both of Hewitt's daughters, Tara and Halle, agree that it is smart for girls to get the vaccine.

"I felt that it would be smart just to get a shot instead of having cervical cancer later on, and I just thought it would be a smart thing to do," said 15-year-old Halle Hewitt.

Tara adds that getting the shot isn't as bad as some people may believe.

"They felt just like any other shot. They kinda stung worse, but they weren't sore afterwards like other shots," said Tara.

Halle also had some thoughts on the bill that would make the vaccine mandatory unless parents withhold consent.

"I think its smart for the state to make it mandatory because its just a healthy thing and a precaution that every teenager needs," said Halle.

Dr. Hewitt believes that if the government can mandate the bill, parents will accept it. He has not heard of any major risks involved with the vaccine, and parents always seem to show minimal concern with the possible risk factors.

"I think they have realistic expectiations. They know that there's always a risk with any kind of injection that you get, but it's very minute," said Dr. Hewitt.
